Preventing Spread of HIV in Jails: Best Window of Opportunity Early in Incarceration

With World AIDS Day less than a week away, two new studies from Yale School of Medicine show that jail inmates, one of the highest risk groups for AIDS, are far more likely to be tested for HIV if given the opportunity in the first 24 hours of incarceration. The studies, which could lead to better prevention and earlier and more effective treatment of inmates, are published in the November 25 issue of PLoS ONE, a journal of the Public Library of Science.

Oceans Absorbing Carbon Dioxide More Slowly, Yale Scientist Finds

The world’s oceans are absorbing less carbon dioxide (CO2), a Yale geophysicist has found after pooling data taken over the past 50 years. With the oceans currently absorbing over 40 percent of the CO2 emitted by human activity, this could quicken the pace of climate change, according to the study, which appears in the November 25 issue of Geophysical Research Letters.
