Privacy Policy
YaleStation (the "Site") is a project of The YaleStation Project (the "Company"), and privacy assurances are made on behalf of the Site and the Company. Yale University (the "University") does not provide privacy guarantees except where stated otherwise on the Site and in its policies.
YaleStation respects your privacy. If you provide us with personal information, we will manage it according to this policy. This policy covers all YaleStation sites and services, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The Company encourages you to read this privacy policy and those of all web sites you visit.
Uses of personal information. Your personal information is used in the following ways:
- NetIDs and Passwords. NetId authentication is brokered by Yale University Information Technology Services through the Central Authentication Service (CAS), and the Site and the Company disclaim responsibility for the security of the authentication process. Users are bound to University network policies in their use of CAS. The Site never has access to your password or to off-site resources protected by NetID authentication.
- Account Information. All information stored on the Site's servers is user-provided or acquired from public resources. The Site neither stores nor has access to private personal information not explicitly provided by the user. Personal information about a user submitted by another user will be removed upon request, provided such postings do not comply with our terms of use.
- User Feedback and Support. Provides a mechanism for submitting information to or requesting information from the Company. These support avenues enable us to improve your online experience.
- E-mail Correspondence. Used to respond to issues and inquiries of all types and to disseminate information about changes to the Site's privacy and account policies. Other correspondance is either initiated by other users or after the user authorizes such mailings.
We will not change the way in which we use your personal information without advance notice.
Security measures. We protect the personal information you share with us. For example, we encrypt all transactions containing particularly-sensitive information. Access to your personal information is limited to people who need it to do their job, and to those for whom you have authorized access.
Third-party access. Authorized third parties may be allowed access to some of your personal information. For example, if you electronically join a group on the Site, the administrators of that group may have limited access to your personal information. We do not share personal information with unauthorized parties.
Linked web sites. We provide links to third party sites. Since we do not control these web sites, we encourage you to review the privacy policies posted on these (and all) third-party sites.
Children's privacy. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have personal information on such a child, we will purge that data from our systems.
Cookies. Most YaleStation web sites use "cookies." Cookies help us provide a better user experience by measuring which web site areas are of greatest interest. The Site also uses cookies when you register for one of our web-based services. In this situation, a cookie will store account information that enables our web site to remember you when you navigate through the site and return in the future. If disable cookies in your browser, you will still access to most public realms on our web sites.
Accessing and updating information. We need your help in making sure your personal information is correct in our systems. Periodically ensure the accuracy of the personal information in your account. Most of our sites allow you to make these updates yourself via the site's user profile pages.
Unsubscribing. Most e-mail subscriptions delivered by our site have instructions at the bottom of the mailing on how to unsubscribe from subsequent mailings. Should a mailing not include these instructions, opt-out requests may be sent to ys@yalestation.yale.edu. Requests are usually processed within 3 business days.
Forums. Many forums on this site are public. Please consider this before posting. Some venues may require authentication. If required by a court order, we will turn over posted materials to requesting authorities.
